A youth men’s academy athlete from Pallanuoto Trieste is once again donning the blue cap for an important international commitment. Italy is gearing up to compete in the Under 15 European Championship, scheduled to take place in Podgorica, Montenegro, from July 6th to July 17th. Coach Massimo Tafuro and assistant coach Christian Presciutti have announced the list of selected players, and the group includes the talented 2008-born player Federico Fumo, a key player for the Trieste Under 16 and Under 18 teams.
This continental competition features a new format, divided into two categories. Italy is part of Division I and will face Spain in their opening match on Saturday, July 8th (at 19:40), Montenegro on Monday, July 10th (at 18:20), and Hungary on Tuesday, July 11th (at 19:40). The top team in the group advances directly to the quarter-finals, while the other three teams will compete in the round of 16 against the best teams from Division II (Netherlands, France, Germany, and Romania). All matches will be livestreamed on the Len website.
"I'm really happy and proud of this call-up," explains Federico Fumo. "It came after a lot of hard work throughout the year. It will be great to represent Italy in such an important tournament, and I can't wait to start playing. We've formed a very close-knit group with the other guys on the national team, and we're ready to give our all to try to win the European Championship. I'd like to thank the club, the coaches, my teammates, and my family for their constant support."
